:. 3000m at Bislett tomorrow 23.May 2007 - 22:27

My first competition on the track will be at Bislett tomorrow evening. Training has gone well so far this spring. Im not sure what to expect, but I will push hard and work all the way through. Its like the first race is very difficult to predict and I can only look at it as a start. Im really happy Im wanting to compete again after last year..

Sunday I will run the 4x800m in NM stafetter with Tonje, Siri and Randi at Osteroy outside Bergen.

Hanne

:. So, whats up! 18.May 2007 - 13:45

Its been a while since last update. The 17 days in Italy were good. I had a great time with good friends! I kept the mileage at 170km per week. Some sessions were in medium intensity with steady runs around 40min. Others were 10x200m with 200m jog, and two sessions with 6x1000m with 2min rest. I was improving every week on these sessions. Thats fun!
Coming back from Viareggio I was really pleased with the work I got done and stayed healthy.
I have kept improving and it seems like my allergy and energy level are in balance.
Holmenkollstafetten 2007 became a sucess for us. The Tjalve-girls beat SK Vidar with 24sec and lead most of the relay. I got the stick 6sec behind Runa Bostad and decided to take it semi-easy up to Blindern. At the back strech by Meteorologisk I finally caught up and pushed quite hard all the way in - tninking I wanted to give Veslemoy the best lead I could! I ran 16sec faster than last year. Very pleased with that!
It was fun to win and all the girls did really well.
First competition will be next Thursday at Bislett. I will run a 3000m before NM Stafetter and the 4x800m next weekend.

Hanne

:. Good to be back - again 27.March 2007 - 11:46

Im back in Viareggio, Italy for the third time. The training conditions are still the same - great! I had the first session on the track yesterday, 6x200m with 200m jog. Felt quite rusty and far from a lightning speed.. But, hopefully that will get better - if not Im in deep shit! Tonight a steady run is on the program. The program for the camp will contain in general a combination of steady runs, track workouts, 1000m intervalls and some drills etc.
The Tjalve group is growing bigger and we are a fine selection down here. Lots of funny stories and good laughs!

:. The Closest Thing... 12.March 2007 - 21:37

How can I think I\'m standing strong,
Yet feel the air beneath my feet?
How can happiness feel so wrong?
How can misery feel so sweet?
This is how The Closest Thing to Crazy of Katie Melua begins, but also summerizes how I have been feeling. Running is finally fun again and Im feeling like Im flying. Last week I ran 3 sessions of intervals with 6x1500m, 40min steady run and another type of fartlek to finish off the week. I have been up to 130km but increased that some this week. I have also started to sharpen up my strides with some drills and boundings. Thinking positive and that feels great!!!

:. First victory in 2007! 2.March 2007 - 21:46

In some ways you can say that 2007 started better than 2006 finished. The injury is healed and Im running again with decent mileage and feeling ok. One week in February at the Gran Canarias with Ingvill got me back to normal training. Im still doing lots of rehab exercises but I think that will help for my stride and technique. Today one of the diving-photos from NM was voted best picture in the category Sport action. .Im glad Thomas Skaug in Hamar Arbeiderblad got credit for his work that day! Im just glad I can run again:)You can find info at www.vg.no.

Hanne

:. Fresh air for a change 21.January 2007 - 21:34

Its been too long since last time I ran outside. It must have been end of November..So, I thought today would be a good day to pick. Went out for about 60min in the snow. As a distance runner, studio training is not my favourite environment, and Im glad to be healthy from my injury now. Jogged every day this week with some double sessions and lots of strenght training and rehab exercises.

Hanne

:. Almost 3 hours of jogging... 14.January 2007 - 19:15

Massage, ultra sound, icing, stretching, more icing and rehab exercises are now a part of my daily training. The foot is much better and I jog every day. I mix the sessions with warm up on the bike and then 10-15min of jogging before more biking. Today I felt that good that I started with 30min jog before biking. Total of 2h45min jog this week is not frightning anybody, but Im pleased that this injury is moving in the right direction.

Hanne

:. A new year - new opportunities 3.January 2007 - 21:39

Im just really glad I have put 2006 behind me and Im looking forward to a new year and new challenges..! Yep, I had a lot going on last year and its been hard to move on. My coach, Knut, and I have had an evaluation and discussed where I am and where Im heading with the training. I will focus on 1500m next season. I will explain more of the training some other time. Frustrating at the moment is my right heel. I havent run a step since December 1 because of a very painful heel. First I thought it was an inflamation underneath, and it would only take a few days off from running to heal it..But, after some treatment at a kiropractor, acupuncture and rest, I still have a very sore heel. Today I went to see a fysio named Tofiri. Terrific fysio whos blind. He really impressed with his knowledge. He thought that the plantar faciitis was the problem. It seems like my ankle is too flexible on the outside and that I need to strengthen it with exercises. Some of the problems with the heel is also a result of a tight hip..Well, I got some ultrasound and a bunch of exercises to do. Just to get started!

Hanne

:. Guestbook is gone 20.November 2006 - 21:00

I have removed the guestbook from this page for a while. Its been way too much spam infecting this page, and at the end it looked more like me subscribing viagra than anything else...Finally had a normal week of training. Thursday I ran a steady run in medium pace in Maridalen. Didnt push but kept it even. Tonight I had 6x1500m in the park with 1min rest.

Hanne

:. Solid cold 12.November 2006 - 19:03

I was suppose to begin with training program again November 1st. Unfortunately, I got a cold that struck quite hard and it took one week with rest to recover. I sort of lost my voice and it didn\'t sound good at all when I opened my mouth..Really challenging with the amount of words passing through mine per day...:( Last week I had 6 tiny sessions and I feel fine now.

Hanne

:. Bad temper 25.October 2006 - 21:15

Yesterday, when working in the store, I had fotballplayer as a customer. When he was about to pay, he asked if I used to train at Sognsvann and the track there. Yes, have you seen me around, I asked. Yep, he had been there that evenening when I was hit by a football.. Nothing special about that, but that Monday night I was hurting from the spectacular fall two days earlier and feeling quite upset in general. Well, this footballer kicked the ball the hardest he could and hit me. At least it felt like that. And I just lost it ,and yelled that he was such a bad fotballer and he should try to kick the ball in the goal or try another sport.. Not the greatest manners from me but dam it - it hurts! Well, to make the story short, that customer was the footballer. I can only say I was quite red in my face when he left. But before that he could tell that he had sent an email off to NIH asked if they could put up a bigger net. We can only hope for the best. But I will try to keep my mouth shut next time. -Will try!

Hanne

:. Luck is what you have left over after giving 100 percent 23.October 2006 - 20:46

The summer of 2006 is over. One part of me is releived and another is very dissapointed. Preparations for the season have been good. I maintained a high mileage through the winter. I ran 12 sessions a week most of the year and cut back when I started competing.
Some say you cannot regret what you have done, only what you didnt do.
Biggest mistake done this year was to run in Belgium June 5. I was catching a cold, but could not resist to start. That resulted in a sinus infection and two weeks with little training. Missed out on a good competition in Sandnes and the European Cup..Because of these problems it took me some time to get back in shape. I had a few good sessions and I was feeling something happening to my legs! Whatever happened was not really showing this year.
In Maribor, Slovenia, the barriers were to high and I was exhausted half way through. That was my last chance to qualify for Gotheburg, and it felt like I had not had a fear chance yet. And now it was all over.
I could finally smile againg at NM with a 4.20 1500m. Not great at all, but at the same time I felt more like a runner again. The most embarrasing moment in my career happened the next day. I was SO ready to run a good 3000SC. At the first water barrier I slipped and dived in the the water. Some say the photos could be 2006 best sports photo.. At least thats something! 3-4 weeks later, healed wounds and a better back I could run strides and faster than 4.20 pace again.
I have rested for some weeks now. My body was not so tired, but my head minced. I have invested in my own apartment, I have put this disastrous season behind me and Im ready to train for next summer. Im not sure if I ever will run steeple again. Only time can tell.
This quote, I think, says alot about how I feel this summer has been. A person does not seek luck, luck seeks the person. ..

Hanne

:. Cross Country Nationals tomorrow 22.September 2006 - 09:57

The Norwegian Championship in cross country long distance is tomorrow. The distance is 6km and takes place in Halden, south of Oslo. My training the last month has been mostly long runs and steady runs at good pace. I have raced twice at Sognsvann Rundt which is a 3.2km long race. First time, I finished at 10.42 and second time at 10.43. From the pictures on the web, the course dont look too much like cross country and Im almost worried about the steps downhill...! I mean, I havent been the cleverest one in controlling my legs this season.. Well, can only hope for the best.

Hanne

:. Photos from NM posted 28.August 2006 - 13:35

Photos from 3000m SC in NM at Bislett are posted under photos on this page. My back is almost recovered and Im hoping to compete on Thursday at Bislett in the 1500m. Enjoy!

Hanne

:. One happy moment 21.August 2006 - 22:28

Today was the first track session in more than three weeks where I was able to run longer and faster than a normal 100m stride. Just to test how my back reacts to a track session, I was suppose to start with 1x400m in 70sec. Without looking at the 200m split I had no clue about the pace! I ran 66.7... One lap jog as rest and then another one. I managed to time that one better with 69.4. Still feeling fine, and I finished off with a 200m at 29.6 without pushing it too hard. Nice to feel some faster pace again. But, it also helps with lots of rest to feel fresh... I just appreciate that I can run properly again:)

Hanne

:. Only Superman can fly... 1.August 2006 - 20:50

I can laugh of it now..But, how is it possibleto fall twice in one season?
First I must say Im quite pleased with the time of 4.20 on Fridays 1500m in NM. I was nervous but excited about the steeple the next day. Felt good on warm up and pretty confident. Karoline Gravdal took off in a nice pace of 79sec first lap and I was right behind. Then, just one second lack of consentration and I look like a monster today. I think I was debating with myself if I was going to pass the barriers right behind Karoline or go to the side. Well, I went to the side, slipped on the barrier and dived or rather crashed in to the water. Too bad it was so shallow. I hit the ground quickly and my face is not pretty at all. Scabs!!! First thing I checked was my teeth. But they are all there. What more to say? Im running SC againg August 24 in Copenhagen Games and Warzaw 30th. IM NOT GIVING THIS UP!!!!
Photos will come when I sort out my web album. And thats more juicy pics than at www.kondis.no

Hanne

:. Unf......believable 20.July 2006 - 10:05

My last chance to qualify to the European Championships became more of a nightmare than I could imagine. Picked up at the airport by an elderly couple on sightseeing, the trip from Ljubljana to Maribor became interesting. The couple stopped at a local pub and helped themselves to a beer each before we litterally took off in 100km per hour in the 40 zone... After check in at the hotel I didnt see anybody for 26hours. Lucky Im a runner so I jogged a bit around and figured out the stadium and the local food store. The organiser didnt impress me at this point. Well warmed up I realize that the meet is delayed by 20min and its bloody 30C and bright sunshine. Im hiding in the shade. From there on the evening is a disaster. First 1km went through at 3.20 and it felt so hard! The only thing I could think of of was to push the pace, but every time I came to the water pit I almost drowned and it took a lot of energy out of me.. It felt like it was sooo much water..Realizing after a 10.21.32 and second place that the steeple at the water was on mens hight!!! I cant believe I made it 7 times! But it took too much strenght out of me and I couldt run the qualifying time.. The organizer just said sorry... Doesnt help me much. Im off to Vienna and will enter the Austrian Championships on Saturday. My last chance what so ever! Im not in the best mood and I can promise Im not going back to Maribor ever again!!

From Prague

:. Looking forward to Maribor next week 12.July 2006 - 14:16

Last weekend parts of the National team was having a gathering in Gothenburg during the VU spelen. We stayed at the same hotel as we will do during the Europeans, and we competed at the same stadium, Ullevi. I placed 3rd in the 1500m with 4.26.16. No great race at all, but good to get the practise. I had 67 sec first lap, slacked off too much the next two laps and came back with a strong sprint.. Not the best way to run a 1500m, but I need to run a few of these before Im confident on the distance. So, Im racing another 1500m at Bislett tomorrow. Since Kaunas, I have been searching the athletic calendar for SC competitions. There are hardly any and it looked like I had to run by myself at Bislett tomorrow.. But Im lucky, and next week I will have my chance to qualify in the SC. Im running in Maribor, Slovenia Wed 19.
I found this quote today that I quite like.
Good things come slow - espesially in distance running - Bill Dellinger

Hanne

:. I must be cursed!!! 2.July 2006 - 22:29

I admit I was really nervous before the race in Kaunas. In 35C and baking sunshine, the girls started out somewhat hard and I stayed behind. First 1000m I split 3.17 and comfortable. When I had one lap to go I was closing the gap to the girls in front. Focused on the girls in front I must have dropped my right leg going over steeple no 32.. Boom to the ground with head and shoulder first. I got up as fast as I could but my legs were shot! I ran whatever I could but missed the standard by 1.06sec... I just cant believe I fell. The winner had 10.54 and I was 4th with 10.06.06. I know I can run much faster soon. I will run 1500m in Gothenburg this weekend. Hopefully that will thoughen me up some:)

Hanne

:. Staying positive! 28.June 2006 - 20:48

Its been another few rough weeks for me. But Im now recovered from a sinus infection and back to normal training. Im hoping to race in kaunas July 1th. Thats a 3000m steeple race. Tomorrow I start 3 weeks of summer vacation and Im looking forward to some rest and finally time to prepare for competitions.

Hanne

:. What more can go wrong?? 7.June 2006 - 15:57

Sometimes I wonder how much more problems I can take. Last weeks training felt good and I was ready to run fast in Belgium. I got a sniffle but was hoping it wasnt much to worry about. Unfortunatly it turned into a cold and I didnt have much strenght to race with. I was with the pack first 1000m and split 3.17. I stayed with them till 1200m, but couldnt hang there through the race. 10.19 and a worst cold is my situation today... Im upset, but cant do much more than get healthy and race when the time is right. Doesnt look too good for me running the European Cup. Thats dissapointing. But, Im a fighter and I know I have trained well this winter. I will come back!!

Hanne

:. Neerpelt tomorrow 4.June 2006 - 15:06

Im off to Belgium tonight. Im running the first 3000m steeple race tomorrow night. Monday I had a solid session on the track that gave some good response. My legs feel good and Im looking forward to get started tomorrow. You can find startlists and results at www.nachtvandeeuregio.be

Hanne

:. Disappointment 28.May 2006 - 18:44

The first competition on the track is over. I didnt do so well. I ran a 4.28.61 which I probably could ave done when I was 18 and ran 6 days a week.. My legs are feeling fine and so is my breathing. But it feels like Im struggling with the mental aspect of competing. Last year was tough and Im still carrying some of the memories from the dreadful runs. Im a hard worker and will keep up the work. Next Monday is the competition in Neerpelt, Belgium. Im running the steeple and will fight hard then!

Hanne

:. Some faster stuff today 20.May 2006 - 21:06

I recovered quickly from the relay and I was already back in ordinary training Monday. I have had some sessions combined with steady runs with medium intensity and some track work. Today I had two hard runs over a time distance with Stian and Oyvind in the group. They where doing four! I went back to the track and finished off the training with an 800m in 1500m-pace. Its soon, or I should say VERY soon, that Im running my first steeple chase race. So, I finally ran over some hurdles to find the rythme and timing. Not excellent yet, but I will get there...!!! The first race is June 5 in Netherlands.

Hanne

:. Solid win for Vidar - 2nd for us 14.May 2006 - 22:24

Last years Holmenkollstafett became a thriller and Tjalve won by one second. Yesterdays relay SK Vidar proved once for all that they had put together a solid team and beat us by 1.40min. A solid win! I ran the 4th leg, called \"berg og dal\", and ran better than last years splits. I had 5.40. It used to be a very hilly leg with up and downhills. Now the stage got most uphills. Im feeling stronger for each time Im pushing myselft. Thats a good sign!

Hanne

:. Holmenkollen next 11.May 2006 - 19:51

The summer is here for sure! Its been a great week with 20-something degrees every day. Monday I helped Susanne Wigene during the early stages in her 10000m European qualifying attempt. She ran 32.50.91. I paced her for 2200m and felt ok. Im still a bit rusty and need more time in competition pace. Running lots of striders with spikes and doing speed drills.
On Saturday its the Holmenkollstafetten and Im looking forward to that.

Hanne

:. Back from Viareggio to NM in Bergen 26.April 2006 - 21:00

Im just back from two weeks training in Italy. Slightly warmer and much nicer than Oslo at the time. I held quite high mileage with medium intensity sessions. The first track sessions with 6-10x200m didnt feel too great. Still some rust in the system! All over a good camp. The Norwegian Championship in cross country over 2km wasnt much of a performance but Im up and running again. Im also healthy and better prepared than last year.

Hanne

:. Two mooses as audience 19.March 2006 - 21:03

During training Saturday two mooses were standing watching me when I passed them in Maridalen. Still lots of snow, so I guess they are looking for food other places than in the forest.. Steady on mileage and feeling quite all right. Tuesday this week I had my second pollen-treatment in Elverum. This is treatment to prepare my immune system for spring and the explosion of pollen that comes with it. Im suppose to have one more before season starts. Still optimistic!!

Hanne

:. Improvement!! 26.February 2006 - 19:10

Since last years big change in training, I have been struggling with especially the steady hard runs. Thursdays are always the hard run day, and I have been at least disliking it... This week I finally had some improvement. I was able to hold a relatively good pace and even run faster at the end. I felt stronger than I have ever been. Finally, I might like this session now..

Hanne

:. Snow makes challenge 9.February 2006 - 21:11

It feels like its been snowing since I got home from South-Africa. The last week has been a challenge. Monday it was impossible to run with intensity because of 20cm new snow last 24 hours! Session was changed to Tuesday. Since then even more snow has come from above.. And today my medium session had to be done indoors on treadmill. Not my favourite equipment, but better than nothing! My extra strenght exercise for this week has been to shuffle snow from my driveway...Nice:)

Hanne

:. Sorry, are you ok? 28.January 2006 - 09:32

During my last hard session yesterday, in the last break, I was jogging around myself in circles and catching my breath. I saw this car pulling up and a woman in here fifties rolled down her window asking me; Sorry, are you ok?
I guess I looked quite tired at that point...telling her Im just training, Im ok.
Back to Oslo tonight. Snow and easy runs for the next week...

Hanne

:. Two hard weeks 28.January 2006 - 09:29

Its been two weeks with many hard training sessions here in Stellenbosch, South-Africa. The sessions contain higher quality work than I usually do at home. Some sessions have been done with my team mate ER, and others at the same time but alone. We are a group of 6 runners here. Except from ER and me, Tore, Oystein, Kjersti and Orjan from SK Vidar have joined us or vice versa!
The conditions here are great. Dirt trails, quiet roads and bike paths through lovely nature. The temperature stays around 30C every day. Im glad the breeze is strong!
I have received massage from Francois at the training center here. He is a former world champion in powerlift. He is a BIG guy, and you think you will never survive the treatment when you have felt his handshake... But he knows his stuff and I feel better now.
The other day we were aiming for the beach. With a poor map, a confused map reader, a rally driver as a chauffeur, and me in the back seat trying to listen to my intuition for where to go, we were lucky to find the coast and a beach. But we went through areas with slum and shanty towns made of tin, resorts that was ruined and looked spooky. We took a chance and parked the car. No offense, but we where the only white ones there... Not a good sign in South-Africa. The water was nice and we had found the beach after hours of driving!!

Hanne

:. Stellenbosch next 13.January 2006 - 00:12

Im off to warm weather training in Stellenbosch, South-Africa tomorrow morning. I will spend two weeks there with some of my friends from work and my training group. The program is ambisous and challenging. Some sessions are of moderate intensity and some are quite hard... I look forward to getting away from snow and ice here in Oslo.

Hanne

:. Film shoot for Sunnaas 12.December 2005 - 19:04

I havent updated the page in a while, but training is going well. The snow and the change to slippery surface make some runs slower than others. This winter I have been able to get used to the mileage before the snow arrived. This means that soreness and tight legs didnt occure the same way as last winter.
Last week I ran more than 170km and I will try to keep up that volume. Im keeping up the work with calf rises and sit-ups, but I find it challenging to do general strenght. Soon, I need to start working on my hips. -Thinking of steeple chase.
Thursday, Susanne Wigene, Anne-Cathrine Bakken, Inger Elisabeth Tørre and me volunteered for an advertising shoot at Bislett Stadium. The film is the end of a sprint race(!) The story is about one persons success that suddenly can change in an accident, and you might have to go through rehab. You might not know if you can ever walk again. At Sunnaas Sykehus (a hospital) you will get some help to rebuild. This advertise will be shown during Christmas and Easter.

Hanne

:. Getting the work done 20.November 2005 - 19:54

Its been almost a month since last update. I have been busy with work and training!! As soon as the summer was over I felt in general alot better. Finally I could breath like normal and my body started to function again. I have been receiving some treatment for pollen allergy, and that will continue in the spring. At the moment I feel really good, and Im so full of motivation thinking of next season. My focus in training now is to maintain mileage and stay healthy. Im running 12 sessions a week stady at 160km+

Hanne

:. Up and running 28.October 2005 - 20:32

This first period of winter training contains a great amount of mileage. I have been running at quite easy pace while getting used to the double sessions again. Most of the weeks have been good but unfortuantly I have had a couple of strange happenings to my left quad or more like the hip flexor. Suddenly the whole left leg was given way and I wasnt able to carry my own weight! With help from chiropractor we figured out that Im quite weak in glut, abdominal and hip area... So, now Im spending some time on basic strenght exercises. One good news for me today: IOC has decided to put 3000m steeple chase on the program in Beijing 2008.

Hanne

:. Starting up again 23.September 2005 - 13:45

After the Norwegian championship I took a few weeks break from training. It wasnt that my body was so tired or even my head. But, my coach and me didnt really see any point pushing me further this season. The last few weeks, I have been in and out from the National team doctors office,Dr Endsjo, to start the evaluation of my problems. Blood samples have been taken and breathing tests have been done... There is no sign of anything being wrong. Frustrating enough! Im full of motivation and have started my training again. At the moment I run every day and feel quite good.
